Mission
Head Start is a national program that promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and families.
Program Description
The Head Start program provides grants to local public and private non-profit and for-profit agencies to provide comprehensive child development services to economically disadvantaged children and families, with a special focus on helping preschoolers develop the early reading and math skills they need to be successful in school. In FY 1995, the Early Head Start program was established to serve children from birth to three years of age in recognition of the mounting evidence that the earliest years matter a great deal to children's growth and development.

They engage parents in their children's learning and help them in making progress toward their educational, literacy and employment goals. Significant emphasis is placed on the involvement of parents in the administration of local Head Start programs. .

The Community Action Partnership was established in 1971 as the National Association of Community Action Agencies (NACAA) and is the national organization representing the interests of the 1,000 Community Action Agencies (CAAs) working to fight poverty at the local level

CSBG
Your local Cap Office offers a variety of services for seniors, children, the disabled and the low-income client. We offer food boxes, Commodities, Good Neighbor Fund (utility assistance), EFSP and other programs designed to give our clients a Hand Up in ther situation,not a handout. We have an on going Child and Adult Care Food Program, "CAP SNACKS", (home based in Socorro) which reimburses day care providers for food served to the children in their care. LIHEAP is also ongoing with a bonus allocation if you use wood, pellets, propane, coal or kerosene. There are various other services available, depending on your location. Please contact your local CAP office for more information and or assistance with all forms.
